A funny thing happened during our move to Charleston, South Carolina.
Realizing that we were going to move, I decided to "give up" biking and
sold the Suzuki Intruder in Spring 2003. When we arrived in
Charleston, I went through yet another post mid-life crisis and bought a
2003 Harley-Davidson Road King in November 2003. During a
Toys-For-Tots charity ride, I met some bikers who included me in their
Sunday rides. Our son, Craig, bought a Honda Shadow Sabre shortly
thereafter. Bonnie is not particularly happy with me, Craig, or our
two bikes. I have kept the references to the Volusia below because,
well, first loves...

In March 2002, I bought a
new toy! A 2002 Suzuki Intruder Volusia 800. |
I think it was my third or fourth mid-life (well, post mid-life) crisis. I
decided to pursue a long-time desire to ride a motorcycle. After
taking a motorcycle safety and training course, I bought the Suzuki.
Realizing the risks involved, all I can do is ride defensively and carefully,
always wear a full-face helmet, a protective, bright jacket, gloves, etc.
Every Saturday morning, bikers congregate at the Sun Trust Bank parking lot
here in Haile Plantation. To the extent possible, we ride via "back roads" to a cafe or restaurant in
one of the close-by towns for breakfast. There, we meet bikers from
all over the area. The rides are organized by Doug at
